Collaborative Pilot Project In Ancash Region, Peru

Ancash Community Mental Health Centers

The mental health burden in Peru’s Ancash region is significant, with challenges including limited access to mental health services, stigma surrounding mental illness, and high rates of poverty and social inequality. According to a study published in 2020, the prevalence of mental disorders in the Ancash region was estimated to be around 18.5%, with depression being the most common disorder. Additionally, factors such as natural disasters (like earthquakes), which are relatively common in the region, can contribute to mental health issues. Access to mental health care is often limited in rural areas, leading to underdiagnosis and undertreatment of mental disorders. Efforts to improve mental health care in the region are ongoing, but there is still much work to be done to address the mental health burden effectively..

Our Approach

Integrating a mental health self-care app in communities that need education about mental health can empower individuals to take control of their mental well-being and reduce the stigma associated with seeking help for mental health issues.
